We had several guests last week, including our two speakers, Hannah Hartman and Tabitha Devine, Hannah’s mother Jamelie, Tabitha’s sister Tammy, and Rotarian Mary Beth Whelan, a prospective member for our club.
Terri announced that our exchange student, Onyx Wacker, will be leaving for Ecuador on August 27th. There will be a group to see her off at approximately 8:30. More details to follow.
There was a discussion about the resurgence of Meals on Wheels in our area. We have supported them in the past and would look for ways to help again in the future. It was suggested that we have them speak at a meeting.
Joe reported that the Star camp had a record attendance this summer. They had to turn away attendees, not for a lack of tuitions, but for a lack of volunteers.
Tabitha and Hannah gave a wonderful presentation on Best Buddies.
Best Buddies International is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, and inclusive living for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
They are dedicated to ending the social, physical and economic isolation of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Their programs empower the special abilities of people with IDD by helping them form meaningful friendships with their peers, secure successful jobs, live independently, improve public speaking, self-advocacy and communication skills, and feel valued by society.
After the presentation, Terri presented them with a check to help further their endeavors in our area.
