Rotary Meeting Highlights 8-24-2022
Last week was our monthly board meeting. All members should have received the minutes from the meeting from Pat Graham.
We were surprised by a visit from our outbound exchange student, Onyx Wacker and her mother, Brenda. Our other visitor for the meeting was Mary Beth Whalen, a prospective member who has attended her third meeting with us.
Some highlights of the meeting discussion include:
Treasurer's report for the Corley Foundation as well as our club. These included report through the end of the 2021-2022 Rotary year as well as this year's report
Committee reports from the donation, membership and club service committees
Andrew provided an update on the Foundry outing we are trying to coordinate.
Andrew and Kevin presented a service project to replace our Shoebox project. The proposal is assembling care kits for the homeless that can be passed out as we encounter.
Our Rotary club is also looking to partner with Westlake and/or Bay Village Kiwanis clubs for a joint service project. Send any project ideas to Terri.
Exchange Student News
Wednesday, August 24, 2022 Onyx and Brenda Wacker surprised us with a visit at our morning meeting. Her siblings were starting their first day of school and they stopped to visit to say thank you for all the support. Onyx answered questions from members about where she is going (Ecuador) and why she chose that country. They shared that her host family in Ecuador has 2 daughters and runs a preschool. President Terri presented Onyx with several of our club flags to present to her host club and any others to which she speaks. The club wished her well in her travels and year abroad.
Sunday, August 28, 2022 Onyx arrives in Ecuador and is greeted by her host family. It sounds like she had an eventful day of traveling with a 6 hour delay in Atlanta due to mechanical problems. She finally arrived in Ecuador at 2:30am. Since they were stuck on the plane during this delay before switching planes, Onyx made friends by sharing her Oreos and introducing her plane mates to dipping Oreos into peanut butter.
Reminder to send speaker ideas to Andrew Mangels or Joe Hudak. Our calendar is filling up nicely but we always are looking for future speakers. Thanks as always for the great suggestions
