The Rotary Club of Westlake Bay Village held its weekly Wednesday meeting on May 4, 2023. The meeting was a hybrid with 20
members meeting via zoom and in person.
The District was able to find another host family for the upcoming year, so we will not need to provide this year, but will need to provide one next year. Please start thinking about who we can enlist.
Plans are underway for the installation of new officers. The tentative date is June 26th. Please save the date, more details forthcoming.
Lucy reported that we have two students from Bay committed for RYLA. We are waiting for Westlake and the Westside Christian Academy to submit their students.
Our Rotary display board for the district conference was awarded 3rd place. Thanks to Andrew and Steve for their efforts in putting it together.
The cluster project for this year is being led by the Westshore club. They are looking to relocate a family from the Ukraine. This may end up being a global grant project.
The deadline for contributions to the Rotary International Foundation is June 30th. Terri would like to see every member participate. Jim will provide more information at a future meeting.
May is a month with 5 Wednesdays. We will again be donating diapers to Providence House. Rather than going to Grumpy’s after the diaper drop, Andrew will provide a hot breakfast prior to our meeting at the library. Seeing as how we just donated in March, we are not expecting a record number of diapers, but please do what you can.
Thanks to Tim Smith for donating signs to designate our meeting place for guests and speakers.
Our speaker today was Jodie Kavensky, founder and CEO of The Norma Leah Ovarian Cancer Initiative. Jodie gave a very informative presentation on the dangers of this dreadful disease. If it is diagnosed in stage 1 or stage 2, there is a 92% cure rate. However, there is no test to alert you to the disease, and getting a pap smear does not screen for it.
