The Rotary Club of Westlake Bay Village held its weekly Wednesday meeting on April 5, 2023. The meeting was a hybrid with 19
members meeting via zoom and in person. President Terri Speck called the meeting to order at 7:34 a.m. and began with a prayer followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the Rotary Four-Way Test.
Terri reported that District Grant applications are open. If anyone has an idea for a project that would qualify, please contact her. Grants are available up to $2500 and must include a hands-on service project.
Joe reported we are up to 46 artists for this year’s Art Festival.
Amy has several dates for our service project at Ronald McDonald House. We will serve dinner from 3-6 pm. Andrew will send out a google survey with several dates to respond with your interest and availability. We will need 8 people for whichever date we choose.
The District Conference is April 28th and 29th. All Rotarians are welcome to attend.
We are still in need of a host family for an inbound exchange student. If you know anyone who can host a student, please let Terri know. It is getting critical as we are obligated to house one.
Plans are underway for the installation of new officers. The tentative date is June 26th. Please save the date, more details forthcoming.
Several members will be bowling this Saturday at 2:30 at the Elks for a fundraiser for Connecting for Kids. All are welcome to come cheer them on and support this wonderful organization.
There will be a Best Buddies walk at Crocker Park on May 7th at 11:15. This is another of our supported organizations and all are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Our speaker today was Polly Mytinger from the Alzheimer’s Association. Polly gave a very informative talk about this horrible disease and the strides they are making in finding treatment. One in three seniors die from Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. Steps to help avoid it include:
Get moving
Eat healthy
Get a good night’s sleep
Be heart healthy
Quit smoking
Protect your health
Remember, what’s good for your heart is good for your brain.
This year’s walk will be October 21st at the Metroparks Zoo.
