Rotary Meeting Highlights 12-21-2022

The Rotary Club of Westlake Bay Village held its weekly Wednesday meeting on December 21, 2022.  The meeting was a hybrid with 18 members meeting via zoom and in person.

Our election of Officers will take place next week. Andrew has sent an electronic ballot to all members via email. If you have not already cast your ballot, please do so. If you can’t find the email, contact Andrew for another one.

Terri announced that we have submitted a grant application for a $2500 matching grant to install raised gardens, walking paths and benches at the property owned by the Farrell Foundation. Our club will donate $2500, District matching grant will provide another $2500, and Farrell Foundation will provide $5000 for the project.

Our Rotary Christmas party will be Wednesday, January 4th, at 5:30 at Luca West. Pat will send an email next week for final commitments for attendance.

Joe announced that speakers have been scheduled for all of January, and one week in February. Please keep your suggestions coming.

Joe Kraft announced that there will be a meeting for Art Festival Committee chairs on January 17th at 6:30.

Our guest speaker today was Megan Barrett, Program Co-Ordinator  for Special Spaces, an organization that creates dream bedrooms for children within one year of cancer treatment.

Special Places was founded in 2004 in Knoxville, Tennessee, and has since expanded into 10 states. The Cleveland chapter opened in 2017 and has supplied 41 dream bedrooms. The national organization has provided over 1400 dream bedrooms.

Special Places is 100% volunteer supported and has many corporate sponsors, including Sherwin Williams, who supplies all the paint.

We had time for our happy thoughts, wished everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

Club Holiday Party
See you at Luca West on Wednesday, January 4 at 5:30pm for our holiday party.

Exchange Student News
Christmas updates from Onyx in Ecuador.  She made buckeyes for her host family to enjoy for Christmas and participated in a secret Santa gift exchange.  We spoke on Christmas Eve where I learned that Christmas Eve is the big day for gift exchanging.  I also learned that she will be moving to a new family in the new year.
