The Rotary Club of Westlake Bay Village held its weekly Wednesday meeting on March 8, 2023. The meeting was a hybrid with 15 members meeting via zoom and in person.
Amy introduced our guest, and hopefully prospective member, Tiffany Cipollone. Tiffany told us a little about herself, and we hope to see her again soon.
Amy contacted Ronald McDonald House and found that they are once again having organizations come in and prepare and serve meals for families. They supply the kitchen and all the food. We would supply volunteers and make a $500 donation. Since this is not a budgeted item, it will be discussed at the next Board meeting. There was interest from the club members to do this in April or May. Amy also has been in contact with Clague Playhouse regarding a social outing around the emd of May or beginning of June. More information to follow.
There will be a meeting of the Art Festival Committee Chair people on Thursday, March 16th at 6:00 PM at the Elks.
We will once again be delivering diapers to Providence House following our meeting on March 29th. Diapers can be dropped off at the library or at Patty Zinn’s office.
Speakers are being booked into June. Thanks for all the suggestions, we have had some wonderful speakers.
Lisa Hebert reported that we have one student signed up for the Four Way Speech so far. We anticipate several more in the near future. The contest will be held March 22nd.
Our exchange student, Onyx Wacker, has returned home following her injury on her trip to rainforest. We wish her well in her recovery.
Terri delivered the blankets to Fostering Hope. They were very appreciative and gushed about the personalizations. Thanks to everyone who worked on the project.
Our club donated $500 to the Rotary Club in East Palestine to help in their relief efforts from the train derailment.
Our speaker today was Stephen Fine from the Melanoma Education Foundation, which was founded in 2000 to help educate young people about early self-detection and prevention of skin cancer. There is 190,000 new cases of melanoma reported each year. It is easily detected and guaranteed curable if detected early.
Steve gave a very informative power point presentation that showed the different types of skin cancer, how to detect it and how to prevent it.
