The Rotary Club of Westlake Bay Village held its weekly Wednesday meeting on January 11, 2023.  The meeting was a hybrid with 20 members meeting via zoom and in person.  

 

Terri thanked everyone who attended our Rotary Christmas party and thanked Amy and Pat for putting it together. A good time was had by all. She also thanked Emiljano for providing the wine.

 

There will be an Art Festival meeting of the Chairpersons January 17^th at 6:30 pm at the library.

 

Terri and Patty attended the District Grant meeting Monday evening to formally present our grant application. The application was approved and we will be receiving a $2500 matching grant to help with project for The Farrell Foundation.

 

Andrew reported that we are scheduling speakers into March.

 

Our speaker today was State Representative Bride Rose Sweeney. Bride is starting her second term representing District 16 after previously serving in District 14 prior to redistricting.

 

Bride Rose Sweeney is a two-term Democratic member of the Ohio House of Representatives for Western Cuyahoga County, serving as Ranking Member of the Ohio House Finance Committee and the lead Democratic sponsor of the bipartisan Fair School Funding Plan that became law on July 1, 2021. Sweeney is also the only woman on the Ohio Controlling Board, which oversees the release of taxpayer dollars.

 

She gave a very informative talk and is very involved in the budget process and in education funding in the State.
