Rotary Meeting Highlights July 12, 2023
The Rotary Club of Westlake Bay Village held its weekly Wednesday meeting on July 12, 2023. The meeting was a hybrid with 20
members meeting via zoom and in person.
President Bob Maver called
the meeting to order at 7:35 a.m. and began with a prayer followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the Rotary Four-Way Test.
Bob welcomed everyone to the meeting and introduced our guest and prospective member Justin Hein, who coincidentally was one of Bob’s
players when he coached at Lakewood High School.
There will be a committee meeting Thursday, July 13th at 6:00pm. The meeting location has been changed; we will now meet at the library on the second floor. Pizza will be provided.
Art festival signs have been placed around the city. Thanks to Jeff and Linda Appel who organized that last Sunday.
We are up to 61 artists so far.
Andrew and Joe Hudak are booking speakers into August and September. If you have suggestions for new speakers, please pass them
along. There is currently an opening for a speaker on August 2nd .
Start lining up your foursomes for our golf outing to be held October 13th at Mallard Creek. It is a noon shotgun. More details will be coming but save the date.
Andrew is looking for volunteers to help out with a service project. We will be working with Erie Responsible to help clean up Huntington
Beach. Let Andrew know if you are interested in donating a couple of hours on a Saturday morning. He will provide some dates.
Our speaker today was Carin Miller from the Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District. Carin gave a very informative presentation on the do’s
and don’ts of recycling. Cuyahoga County currently generates 2.3 million tons of trash each year. 61% ends up in landfills, 33% in
recycling, and 6% in compost. There are no active landfills in Cuyahoga County.
Most of our trash is trucked to Lorain County. Visit their website at www.cuyahogarecycles.org to learn what you can and cannot recycle,
as well as much more great information.
Pat presented Terri with two sets of Rotary earrings as a small token of the Club’s appreciation for her leadership last year.
There was not time for our happy thoughts, and we adjourned at 8:35
