Our speaker today was Mike Parks, Regional CEO of the Northeast Ohio Red Cross. Mike gave a very informative talk on the various services the Red Cross provides each day. The Northern Ohio Region of the American Red Cross is comprised of 5 community chapters. Together, they serve 31 counties and their more than 5.3 million residents by preventing, preparing for and responding to emergencies 24 hours per day, seven days a week. They provide relief to people experiencing loss from home fires. Seven people die each day nationally due to home fires. The Cleveland chapter began a program called Sound the Alarm, Save a Life, where they install smoke detectors in homes without them. The program is now a national program and over 2 million smoke detectors have been installed. The NE chapter has 53 paid staff and over 2000 volunteers. Their main mission is still collecting blood. Please consider becoming a donor.
We had time for our happy thoughts and the meeting adjourned at 8:28
