The Rotary Club of Westlake-Bay Village held its weekly Wednesday meeting on June 18, 2025. The meeting was a hybrid with 15 participants meeting via Zoom and in person. President Andrew Mangels called the meeting to order at 7:30 a.m., began with a prayer, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the Rotary Four-Way Test. Andrew welcomed everyone, and introduced our guest, Marie Patton Blatter.

Club news:

  • If you still need to do your Youth Protection training, please complete it as soon as possible. Contact Terri if you need the link to the training. Jim has volunteered to be the Youth Protection officer effective July 1st.
  • Our new officer induction ceremony was held on June 16th at Arrabiata’s. Thanks to Rachel Maver for organizing the event. It was a nice evening with great food, fun, and fellowship.
  • Tubtim will be returning home on July 7th. We will celebrate her at our meeting on July 2nd. A hot breakfast will be served. After breakfast, we will use the remainder of the meeting to discuss the Art Festival, which is a little more than a month away.
  • Rotary will celebrate End Polio Now at the Guardians game on August 15th. Tickets are available.
  • Providence House is hosting a Stuff the Truck event on July 18th. Rather than providing diapers for our 5th Wednesday, we ask that you bring them prior to the 18th so we can participate in their event. They are in particular need of size 4-6 diapers.
  • The Lake Erie Science and Nature Center will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new exhibit on July 26th from 3:00-5:00 p.m. All are invited.

Our speaker today was Marie Patton Blatter, who updated us on the happenings at Meals on Wheels, Cleveland West. They serve clients in Bay Village, Westlake, North Olmsted, Olmsted Falls, and Olmsted Township. 110 volunteers each week serve two meals each day to 84 recipients. Last year, they served over 41,300 meals, up from the 31,000 they served in 2022. After Marie’s presentation, Andrew presented her our check for $1000 to help provide for the organization. To learn more about the group, or to volunteer or donate, visit their website at www.mealsonwheelsclewest.org.

We had time for our happy thoughts, and the meeting adjourned at 8:15.
