The Rotary Club of Westlake-Bay Village held its weekly Wednesday meeting on June 10, 2026. The meeting was a hybrid meeting with 22 participants meeting via zoom and in person at Westlake Porter Public Library. President Amy Kubacki called the meeting to order at 7:30 a.m., began with a prayer and meditation, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the Rotary Four-Way Test. Amy welcomed our guests, Bay village scholarship winner Sarah Hein and her parents, and our speaker, Dr. Neil Smith from the Cleveland Clinic.
In deference to Dr. Smith’s time, we began the meeting with his talk. Dr. Smith is president of Fairview Hospital and also oversees all of the Clinic facilities in the Northeast area which encompasses 3 hospitals and 43 satellite locations. Fairview hospital started in the 1950’s and became part of the Clinic in the 1990’s. It is a level 2 hospital and is currently ranked #2 in the country. It has been #1 and has always been in the top
6. They are currently constructing a brand-new cancer center, a bridge connecting it to the main hospital and a 1000 car parking garage.
Several of our members have had experience with Dr. Smith, who also still has his private practice, and with Fairview Hospital, and thanked him for all he does for the community.
After Dr. Smith’s presentation, Jim presented Sarah Hein with her scholarship check. Sarah told us about herself and her plans to attend Ohio State in the fall, where she will major in finance.
The Art Festival is right around the corner. We need several volunteers to help with the set up on Friday, July 24 th . Signups are available on ClubRunner.
Andrew is looking for a few good men and women to finish the fence project at Footpath. If you can help on Saturday, please show up. It should only take a few hours.
Please plan on attending the Banner Exchange on June 29 th at Sleepy Hollow and support Terri as she becomes the next District Governor.
Rotary will be holding a fundraiser at the Guardians game on August 19 th . All proceeds will benefit the fight to eradicate polio.
The RYLA banquet is June 25 th at Hiram College. Let Joe K. know if you are interested in attending.
June 26 th is the Stuff the Bus for Providence House. Although July is our fifth Wednesday month when we usually deliver diapers, we will try to collect enough this month instead so we can support their project.
