Rotary Meeting Highlights July 3, 2024
The Rotary Club of Westlake Bay Village held its weekly Wednesday meeting on July 3, 2024. The meeting was a hybrid with 13
participants meeting via zoom and in person. President Mangels called the meeting to order at 7:30 a.m., began with a prayer followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the Rotary Four-Way Test.
Andrew welcomed everyone to the meeting and gave some club updates prior to Terri’s presentation.
Club news:
The next Art Fest committee meeting is scheduled for July 11th at 6:00 pm in the library. Jeff has a sign-up sheet for jobs the day of the event, and Patty is making a last push for sponsorships. Please contact them with any questions.
Terri reported that we have three outbound students leaving in August. One is going to Hungary, one to Thailand, and one to Taiwan.
A reminder: Dues invoices have been sent. Checks should be made out to the club, not Corley, and given to Jim or Pat.
There are 5 Wednesdays in July. We will do our diaper drop for Providence House and clothing for the Crisis Center. With lagging attendance at our “fifth of Wednesday”, we will be surveying the members to see if this is something we wish to continue, and if so, where?
Terri gave her presentation on Youth Protection. All members of the club will need to undergo training, which will be available online. No member should ever be alone with a youth at any activity conducted or sponsored by the club. Anyone who will be alone with a youth needs to undergo training and certification by Rotary which will include extensive background checks. These mandates are not only to protect the youths, but also to protect the members from unwarranted accusations.
Thanks to Terri for making this difficult topic interesting, and a big thank you to Andrew for the hot breakfast.
We had time for our happy thoughts and the meeting adjourned at 8:28
