Rotary Meeting Highlights 1-20-2021

For those unable to attend today’s meeting, we had a lot of good information disbursed. There were a total of 14 people on the Zoom.
President Goggin started the meeting with a prayer by our Chaplain, the Pledge and the Rotary Four-Way Test.

Scott presented an email received from Kathy Berkshire about the district efforts to collect items for the VA hospital.  Andrew reviewed our efforts to date for this project.  We are one of the few clubs who did participate, but if there are members who would like to contribute more can do so.  Items can be dropped off at the library and we will make sure they are delivered.
Patty Zinn, Ramsey Iman, Tim Smith, Holly Schafer are 4 new members who we plan to induct next week, 1/27/2021 at our board meeting.  Please plan to attend to welcome our new members.

Scott turned the meeting over to Joe Kraft to lead our discussion and brainstorming.  Joe, Ray and Andrew visited 78th Street studios last Friday to connect with the artists and promote the event.  They heard many stories of the past Art Fest in Westlake.  An important feature of our event is that it will be held rain or shine as Scott Goggin has offered the elementary building if we need to move indoors for weather.  Joe reminded the club that Jeff Appel and Mark Grimm have been tapped to lead our volunteer committee.  We have a website and facebook page.  Joe suggested becoming familiar with these.

Our push today is to build our artists list over the next several months.

Joe has been working with Michael O’Donnel on advertising, including an article in Westlife.  Also planning to be in a few art periodicals, including the Northeast Ohio catalog of art festivals for the year.  We are in this and it goes out this week.

Mike O’Donnel spoke on advertising and pro-actively working on a budget (pricing on lawn signs announcing events, banner across Hilliard Blvd, pricing on Billboard on library grounds on Center Ridge Road) and writing article for the Observer.  Looking for balance of crafts, artists and food vendors.  Need all signage in by early April as the sign makers get busy with other events in May/June. Andrew presented the timeline of our club activities for this event.

Emilijano will be our Corporate Sponsor chair.  Reach out to him if you have ideas for sponsors.

Looking to get a layout of the festival space finalized and on the website as soon as possible.
Andrew showed us an aerial view of the space for the festival and explained where things will be set up, including booths, wine/beer garden, and the entrance.  We held discussions about where the musicians will be located.

Andrew mentioned preliminary thought to contact the Kiwanis to hold their pancake breakfast at the elementary
Joe Hudak mentioned us reaching out to other Rotary clubs and attending meetings to promote our event.  He also brought up making sure we have masks and hand sanitizers on hand at all the booths, etc to be prepared as we don’t know what the rules are.

Parting thoughts from Joe, go out and contact artists, food vendors (think “Amish” pie lady), craft people.

We did not have time for our happy thoughts and the meeting was adjourned at 8:29.
