Cleveland Partnership Schools
Jan. 31, 2024 7:30 a.m.
Partnership Schools began in New York City more than a decade ago in an effort to save parish schools serving working-class communities in Harlem and the South Bronx. Now, the network’s four schools in Cleveland and seven in New York bring a new approach to the social mobility and community building that urban Catholic schools have long catalyzed. The schools share a streamlined organizational structure, curriculum, teacher training, and a focus on values that is gaining broad-based appeal among even non-Catholic parents. The original Partnership schools in New York have achieved substantial growth in enrollment and academic achievement, and early progress in Cleveland’s four schools is promising. |

Over the years, Rotary Clubs in District 6630 have partnered with schools and offered an opportunity for high school students to develop critical thinking, ethical decision making, and public speaking skills. Feedback about this program from teachers, students, and parents has been consistently positive, with strengthened ties to the local community. The purpose of the 5 to 7-minute speech is to apply the principles of Rotary International’s 4-Way Test to a current ethical issue. Students are challenged to identify a topic they feel passionate about and to adopt a point of view from which they will seek to persuade others. In doing so they are required to evaluate their recommendation by answering the following questions: The Westlake - Bay Village Rotary Club Contest will take place on March 13, 2024. Outreach to the three highschools within our area is underway.
