For those unable to attend today’s meeting, we had a lot of good information disbursed. There was a total of 20 people on the Zoom.
President Goggin started the meeting with a prayer by our Chaplain, the Pledge and the Rotary Four-Way Test. He then introduced our speaker, Victoria Montag.
Victoria gave her presentation before we discussed club business. She is a Junior at Westlake High School, Miss Westlake Teen USA, Treasurer of Best Buddies, and an advocate for her main passion, Generation of Communication. Victoria spoke about the need for her generation to embrace literacy, not only in reading but in writing. She credited her 4th grade teacher for instilling the interest in reading and writing in her, and she is doing her best to share that passion with other young people she encounters. Victoria will be competing for Miss Ohio Teen USA in July.
After Victoria’s talk, she left the meeting and we continued with club business.
Scott informed the club that Gary DiLillo’s father had passed away on May 2nd after a long illness. Services will be this Friday in Chesterland. Please remember Gary and his family in your prayers.
Covid has claimed another project for 2021. We were just informed that the RYLA camp for this summer has been cancelled. That sparked a lively 20-minute conversation regarding our club’s spending of the dollars allocated to RYLA, Shoebox and other budget items that have been cancelled. Andrew researched the Heart 2 Heart project that was brought up last week, Kevin shared information on Samaritan’s Purse, another national project, and several members discussed increasing donations to some of our current partners on a one-time basis. Andrew will prepare a survey to be sent to all members to gauge their opinions on how we should proceed.
The committee chairpeople for the Artfest will meet tomorrow evening. Joe reported we are nearing 40 artists committed.
