Rotary Meeting Highlights 2-10-21

For those unable to attend today’s meeting, we had a lot of good information disbursed. There was a total of 25 people on the Zoom.
President Goggin started the meeting with a prayer by our Chaplain, the Pledge and the Rotary Four-Way Test.  He then introduced our guest speaker Rick Willis and our guest, Kathy Berkshire.

Joe K. gave an update on plans for the Art Festival. Things are moving along well. Michael has done a great job on marketing and we will soon see signs in the area, possibly as early as March. Ray is looking into the need for 2-4 porta potties for the event. Emiljano is heading up corporate sponsorship. We have $6000 in sponsorship money so far. Please send any suggestions for new sponsors to Emiljano. We still need more artists, and the process of vetting current applications will begin soon.

Scott talked briefly about last weeks program with Sarah Rintamaki and Connecting for Kids and the Rotary cluster project. We want to find new ways to continue our partnership with her organization.

Terri reported our Four Way Speech contest will be held Wednesday, March 24th at 5:00 pm. She is working on the logistics of holding the contest virtually on Zoom.

Kevin K. reported that letters have been sent to the other clubs regarding their participation in the Shoebox project. We will have more information coming in the next couple months.

Terri and Scott attended last evening’s District Grant seminar. Scott has the PowerPoint presentation for anyone interested in viewing.

Our speaker today was Rick Willis. Rick runs the Christian Community School and spoke today on the Tragedy of Education in America Today. His premise is that as a country, we are failing to pass down the skills needed to survive as a nation from generation to generation. He feels we are losing our sense of wholeness as a society and becoming a nation of specialists. The talk was followed by a spirited discussion of how these core values are being taught and the role of teachers and educators in our schools. Scott shared a link for all of us to view depicting the diversity in our school. The video is 16 minutes long but well worth viewing. As there was not enough time for all of us to share our happy thoughts, Scott ended the meeting early.

The meeting adjourned at 8:24.
