Rotary Meeting Highlights 12-16

For those unable to attend today’s meeting, we had a lot of good information disbursed. There was a total of 14 people on the Zoom.
President Goggin started the meeting with a prayer by our Chaplain, the Pledge and the Rotary Four-Way Test.  He then introduced our guests, prospective member Tim Smith and our speaker, Melissa Renner.

As we did not have a full agenda, Melissa gave her presentation first. Her topic was “Tales of Africa” and she gave a very moving talk about her trip to Botswana, where she visited two different orphanages. The conditions in the two facilities were very different, with one being well maintained and the other not so much. The children were very grateful to see them and enjoyed learning new games that Melissa taught them. It was very apparent from her talk that the experience was more gratifying to Melissa and her husband as the children now have a permanent place in her heart and in her prayers.

We next moved onto club business. Joe Hudak made a recommendation from the donation committee that the club make a $2500 donation to the Westlake Educational Foundation. Jim Strunk made a motion, second by Terri, that we amend the Corley budget to reflect accepting a $2500 donation to the Corley Foundation from Joe Kraft. Motion carried. Jim then made a motion, second by Michael O’Donnell, that the club make a $2500 donation to the Westlake Educational Foundation. There was discussion about the foundation. Scott told us the Foundation had been in existence for some time but had become inactive. Joe is reviving the Foundation, which awards grants not covered under the normal budget, as well as other contributions. After the discussion period, Scott called the question and the motion passed.

Andrew reported that the Gifts for Needy Families program was completed. He thanked all the members who shopped and who came and helped wrap. Gifts will be dropped off at the Senior Center today. The cluster project for Connecting for Kids is also almost complete. There is still one club who has not delivered their boxes yet, so if we do not get them soon, we will need to take care of it for them.

The membership committee has proposed three new members, Patty Zinn, Tim Smith, and Holly Shafer. We have received applications from two of them so far. They have all attended at least three meetings.

We will not be meeting next week, 12-23 but will have our Board meeting on 12-30. Merry Christmas to all.
