Rotary Meeting Highlights 1-6-21

For those unable to attend today’s meeting, we had a lot of good information disbursed. There was a total of 17 people on the Zoom.

President Goggin started the meeting with a prayer by our Chaplain, the Pledge and the Rotary Four-Way Test.  He then introduced our guests, prospective member Tim Smith, Patty Zinn, Char Shryock, and our speaker, Sr. Solma.

Scott thanked Terri for agreeing to serve as President-elect and noted our club is in great hands with Ray taking over in July of 2021 and Terri following him in July of 2022.

Joe Kraft spoke briefly about the Art Festival, thanking members for providing names of potential artists for the festival which will be held the last Saturday in July. Committee chairpeople should be working on their assignments and be prepared to report at each meeting if called on.

Joe Hudak thanked everyone for speaker leads. We continue to have very interesting programs.
We next heard from our speaker, Sr. Solma, who gave a very interesting and informative talk on Slavic Village. Sr. Solma has spoken to us in the past in her role at Villa Montessori. Due to changing times, their efforts have transitioned from education to housing in Slavic Village. Villa Montessori became Villa Head Start and they are now in charge of education. It became apparent that many of the struggles in Slavic Village could be traced to housing challenges, with over half of the residents living below the poverty level. Sister is actively working to help these people in a number of ways including getting supplies to help with the pandemic, working with people facing evictions, championing the efforts to solve the lead paint issue and many other worthwhile causes. Her work is amazing and so was her talk.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:27
