Rotary Meeting Highlights 1-13-21

For those unable to attend today’s meeting, we had a lot of good information disbursed. There was a total of 17 people on the Zoom.
President Goggin started the meeting with a prayer by our Chaplain, the Pledge and the Rotary Four-Way Test.  He then introduced our guests, prospective member Tim Smith and our speaker, Paula Horner.

Scott announced that the Board had approved 4 new members, Holly Schafer, Tim Smith, Patty Zinn, and Ramsey Inman. Pending everyone’s availability, we hope to induct them at our Board meeting on January 27th. We also have two additional applicants, Char Shryock and Dan Sebring that we hope to approve at that same meeting.
Joe Kraft spoke briefly about the Art Festival, thanking members for providing names of potential artists for the festival which will be held the last Saturday in July. We currently have 25 interested artists in the database. Please continue to promote the festival to anyone you think may be interested. We will have reports from the committee chairs at our next meeting.
Joe Hudak thanked everyone for speaker leads. We continue to have very interesting programs and are currently scheduling into March.

There are district grants available. There will be virtual training in February that must be attended by at least two members to be eligible for the grants. Terri will coordinate to make sure we qualify.
We next heard from our speaker, Paula Horner, the new Director of Recreation at the Westlake Recreation Center. Paula was previously the Director at the Broadview Heights Recreation Center. Some of her accomplishments there were getting a bond issue passed in 2015 and an operating budget passed in 2016. Last year she had revenues that exceeded her expenses. She is excited to be in Westlake and Westlake is excited to have her. She is currently working on a new marketing plan and a new corporate sponsorship program. Her first new project is the makeover of Clague Park. The City received a 50% matching grant from the state that makes this new project doable and exciting. The new park will be fully ADA compliant. She is also open to partnerships with the City Schools.

We had time for the our happy thoughts and them the meeting was adjourned at 8:13.
