Rotary Meeting Highlights 2-3-21

For those unable to attend today’s meeting, we had a lot of good information disbursed. There was a total of 21 people on the Zoom.
President Goggin started the meeting with a prayer by our Chaplain, the Pledge and the Rotary Four-Way Test.  He then introduced our guest speaker Sarah Rintamaki.

Scott first mentioned last week’s incident in Bay Village where there was a report of a gun in the school. Fortunately, it turned out no gun was found but it was still traumatic for all involved. He offered the support of our club if there was anything we could do.

There will be a District Grant Seminar on Tuesday, February 9th at 6:00 pm via zoom. Terri, Scott, and Ray will be attending. If you would like to participate, contact either Terri or Scott regarding registration.

Herb spoke briefly of his plans to review the Corley By-laws.

Joe Kraft spoke briefly about the Art Festival, we currently have over 100 artists who are interested in the Festival. We are listed in a magazine that goes to all the artists in the area and right now there are no other festivals taking place the day of ours. Michael O’Donnell met with the committee and presented a very thorough marketing plan to promote the event.

Terri reported our Four Way Speech contest will be held Wednesday, March 24th at 5:00 pm. Due to Rotary’s announcement the other day that all meetings will continue to be virtual through the end of the Rotary year June 30th, we will hold our contest virtually.
Doug Newcomb has resigned as Treasure. Bob Maver will take over his duties with assistance from Jim Strunk. Dick Berila will continue as Asst. Treasurer. We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to Doug Newcomb for his 42 years of service to our club and to Corley as Treasurer. That type of tenure is unheard of and we are extremely grateful for all he has done.

Our speaker today was Sarah Rintamaki. Sarah heads Connecting for Kids and is herself a 4th generation Rotarian. She shared details about the Distance Learning Care Package program, which is our Rotary cluster project. This program provides a box with numerous items to assist parents with communicating with the schools in this time of virtual learning. The challenge right now is how to get the remaining boxes into the hands of parents. Sarah and Andrew gave a big shout out to our own Tim Smith who provided all 140 boxes for the project. There was a lot of discussion as to how we can keep involved with the very worthwhile organization going forward. For more information, click here https://connectingforkids.org/

The meeting adjourned at 8:29.
