Dr. Matthew S. Mills is a Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control Optical Engineer with formal training in electromagnetics, physics, and mathematics (Ph.D & M.Sc., The College of Optics and Photonics, UCF, 2010-2015; B. Sc., Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, 2006-2010). Defense industry core research and development efforts involve metamaterials, diffractive optics, wave propagation, nonlinear optics, and optimization/machine learning techniques. Prior to joining Lockheed Martin, Dr. Mills was a primary investigator for the Materials and Manufacturing Directorate, Air Force Research Laboratory (RXAP) at Wright Patterson AFB. While there, Dr. Mills conducted Commander Research Directed Funds with a portfolio totaling 6M USD per year. For his warfighter advances in the field of artificial intelligence and computational electromagnetics, Dr. Mills was recognized with the AFRL Charles J. Cleary Scientific Excellence Award and RX Director’s Team Award. |

Dr. Emily Mills serves as a Portfolio Manager at Design Interactive, Inc. where she leads research and development efforts to advance digital phenotypes and digital twins to support extended reality technologies. Dr. Mills has a diverse background including work in medical devices, preclinical and government research, system evaluations, and project management (Ph.D. University of Florida, 2017; B.Sc. Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, 2013). Prior to joining Design Interactive, Inc., Dr. Mills led numerous research projects at Wright-Patterson AFB supporting the U.S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine, Air Force Research Laboratory’s 711th Human Performance Wing, and the Naval Medical Research Unit Dayton. Her work focuses on human performance including quantifying physiological states using noninvasive sensors, causal mechanisms of aviator neck and back pain, biomechanical effects of cognitive workload, and evaluating new systems for military use. |

Special Spaces is a non-profit that creates dream bedroom makeovers for dependent children ages 2-19 with cancer who are within one year of treatment. They only do bedrooms. Bedrooms where children sleep, but also rest, play, and spend time away from the challenges of their illness— a very special space to just to be a kid! They maintain a high touch, high impact organization that measures success by the quantity and the quality of the experience. They transform the child’s existing bedroom into a place that only he/she can dream or imagine. |
